IMSI-CONTROL · Respond in the network

IMSI blocking and control, by list or by operator range

Answers an operator question: which subscriptions, domestic or foreign, may operate on the network.

What it is

IMSI blocking and control

Allows, observes or restricts subscriptions by IMSI, by list or by operator range (MCC-MNC). It is combined with the IMEI and the MSISDN through the IMEI–IMSI–MSISDN link.

Includes roaming control · ROAM-GUARD function

The module applies the operator rule on subscriptions by IMSI, by list or by operator range (MCC-MNC). It makes it possible to act on foreign subscriptions the operator does not want to serve, such as permanent roaming or operator ranges without an agreement. It includes the ROAM-GUARD function.

How it works

How it operates in the network

  1. The network queries

The query includes the IMSI when the switch sends it; the diagnostic confirms its presence per interface.

  2. Sx-EIR applies

The core applies the rule by list or by operator range (MCC-MNC).

  3. The operator measures

The economic value of roaming is calculated in Sx-EIR Integrity with the operator's roaming billing.

Evidence

What supports it

IMSI control acceptance test protocol, with non-impact, blocking and unblocking cases.

Regional case

IMSI blocking in permanent roaming

Context

Mobile operator in the Andean region with foreign subscriptions in permanent roaming that occupied its network without a roaming agreement with the operator.

ATC's intervention

ATC put into production IMSI blocking and observation on Sx-EIR, by list and by operator range (MCC-MNC).

The ROAM-GUARD function extends the view to all foreign IMSIs, by country and by agreement.

Result

The operator decides in the network which foreign subscriptions it serves. The analysis showed that most of what was blocked were Internet of Things (IoT) modules and trackers, information that guides the local offering of machine-to-machine (M2M) services.

Sx-EIR · IMSI-CONTROL

It relies on the same Sx-EIR core, with acceptance test protocols signed by both parties.

Scope

What is included and what is not

Included

  • Blocking or observation by IMSI
  • Rules by operator range (MCC-MNC)
  • ROAM-GUARD function for permanent roaming and out-of-agreement ranges

Not included

  • Responses on subscriptions outside the operator's own network
  • Response by IMSI when the query does not include it
How it starts

Added according to the project scope

The diagnostic confirms the sources and interfaces the module requires in the operator's network.

Next step

Data is processed on the infrastructure the operator designates, under its control.

ATC reviews the platform the operator prioritizes and proposes the appropriate configuration. Sizing and review are provided at no cost.

  • Review of the platform and the network interfaces
  • Sizing according to the operator's infrastructure
  • Staged proposal: module, platform or delegated operation
